This was one of my favourite weddings and was featured in a magazine. The Karma of bride Tarryn was so great and everything went according to plan. We used old tea cups, books and photo frames for the table numbers.
We planted herbs in all the cups and also gave each guest a herb as a wedding favour. The table plan was displayed in an old suitcase and made a great talking point. Herbs are great to use for nature weddings.
Plant some herbs in little clay pots and put little nametags on it describing the personality type suited best for each herb, like Lavender for the care taking happy chatty person and a medicinal value like use Lavender for insomnia and to calm and relax the nerves. Similar to this, Lovers sent little bouquets to a Victorian lady, who he admired and the type of flower or herb which was used in the bouquet, each had a meaning and would spell out the words to create a message by this young man to the lady. This caused a lot of giggles behind the scene amongst Victorian young ladies. Courting in the Victorian times was a mysterious matter and young Victorian ladies flirted with paper fans, and the way she used it also sent a message and was part of this romantic era.
See my example of a few flowers and their meaning. For your wedding create bouquets with a message or centre pieces with a message or give a wedding favour to your lady guests with a message to each.
This is a great way to make your lady guests feel special by potting a few meaningful herbs or flowers as individual gifts or as a few of them in a combination for a centre piece and after the wedding each lady on the table can take a little pot home and read the little message with the meaning of the flowers or herb in her container. This is a meaningful wedding favour and may last for a life time in your wedding guests garden.
A friend brought me a little cutting of Spekboom (Portulacaria afra)/an indigenous tree the other day, wrapped with a packet of sweeties. I put it in water so that it can propagate roots and have now planted it in my garden and I will always think of her when I see this little tree growing. She might not even now how meaningful this little cutting was to me- and will now grow into a little tree, from which I can keep on giving cuttings to more people and spread love.
Wedding favours and gifts should be meaningful and personal.
